Boebert switches congressional districts, avoiding a Democratic opponent who has far outraised her

DENVER (AP) — Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert announced Wednesday she is switching congressional districts, avoiding a likely rematch against a Democrat who has far outraised her and after an embarrassing moment of groping and vaping that shook even loyal supporters. In a Facebook video Wednesday evening, Boebert announced she would enter the crowded Republican primary in retiring Rep. Ken Buck’s seat in the eastern side of the state, leaving the more competitive 3rd district seat she barely won last year and was in peril of losing next year as even some in her party have soured on her controversial demeanor.Boebert called it “a fresh start,” acknowledging the rough year following a divorce with her husband and video of her misbehaving with a date at a performance of the musical “Beetlejuice” in Denver. She already faced a primary challenge in her district, as well as a general election face-off with Democrat Adam Frisch, who came within a few hundred votes of beating her in 20...

Running back Zamir White makes strong impact for Raiders with Josh Jacobs out

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 09:20:34 GMT

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — Zamir White was nowhere to be found Wednesday, but his impact in Monday’s 20-14 victory at Kansas City was evident by the green Nickelodeon slime hat sitting in his locker at the Raiders’ facility.White received, uh, the honor after rushing for 145 yards against the Chiefs, signifying him as the player of the game according to the children’s network, which had an alternate telecast of the game. This kind of impact didn’t seem possible as recently as two weeks ago when White mostly watched from the sideline as Josh Jacobs carried the load. But Jacobs suffered a quadriceps injury on Dec. 10 against Minnesota, and White went from a seldom-used running back whose future in Las Vegas was questionable to someone the Raiders might want to keep in the lineup if and when Jacobs returns.“If you’re a good player and you’re producing and helping us win, you win,” interim coach Antonio Pierce said. “But don’t get it fooled, Josh Jacobs is one of the ...

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Just over six years after Yoshinobu Yamamoto watched a playoff game from the raucous Dodger Stadium stands and decided he absolutely had to play in the major leagues one day, the right-hander pulled on his white No. 18 jersey and a blue cap in the center field pavilion. The consensus best pitcher outside North America reached one of his goals Wednesday, joining the Dodgers on a 12-year contract that’s reportedly the largest and longest ever guaranteed to a major league pitcher. But the 25-year-old ace of Japan’s top league won’t be satisfied without many chances to experience the Los Angeles playoff atmosphere he absorbed as a teenager watching Kenta Maeda on the mound at Chavez Ravine in 2017.While he plays alongside Shohei Ohtani with his star-studded new club, Yamamoto also intends to inspire any dreaming youngsters in the Dodger Stadium stands.“From today moving forward, I promise to all the fans of LA that I will focus my everything to become ...

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexican officials moved to clear a migrant encampment on the banks of the Rio Grande river Wednesday as U.S. officials met with Mexico’s president to press for measures to limit a surge of migrants reaching the U.S. southwestern border.Mexico began clearing tents, both occupied and unoccupied, from the encampment in the border city of Matamoros, across from Brownsville, Texas, starting Tuesday. The effort, backed by bulldozers and workers with machetes, continued Wednesday as U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken talked with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador in Mexico City.López Obrador has said he is willing to help, but he wants to see progress in U.S. relations with Cuba and Venezuela, two of the top sources of migrants, along with more development aid for the region. But Mexico’s top priority appeared to be getting the United States to reopen border crossings that were closed because of the migrant surge.“We spoke about the importance of the bo...
