BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Athing Mu still had on her bedazzled aqua-blue track spikes when she made her announcement: She was officially on vacation. Before heading on a trip for some rest and relaxation, the 800-meter runner grabbed a bronze medal on the final day of world championships Sunday night. Time for a quick reset before getting back to work to defend her Olympic title at the Paris Games in 11 months.“I’m just happy my race is over,” said Mu, who entered as the defending champion but nearly skipped worlds due to fatigue. “I can go home and finally enjoy vacation and stop thinking about track and field.”A bronze from Mu and a gold by the men’s 4×400 relay team pushed the Americans final total to 29 medals in Budapest, including 12 gold. The red, white and blue eclipsed the Jamaicans (12) in total medals, along with Canada and Spain (four apiece) in gold medals. This wasn’t quite the bountiful haul of last summer, when the U.S. amassed 33 medals, 13 gold, at worlds ...

TAMPA — The Yankees started their long road trip with a series loss, as the team fell to the Rays, 7-4, on Sunday at Tropicana Field. The Yankees, who have won just one series since July began, blew a 4-2 lead with two outs in the sixth inning when an erratic Ian Hamilton gave up a single and hit a batter before Randy Arozarena picked up an infield hit. Harold Ramírez then poked one just over the head of Gleyber Torres, who didn’t get the best read on the two-run, game-tying blooper.“I think if Gleyber has a better read of it, then he opens and runs to it and gives himself a better chance,” Aaron Boone said.Brandon Lowe then gave the Rays the lead with his own two-run single off of Wandy Peralta. Hamilton was charged with all four runs that scored in the sixth.“It was tough, but I’m trying to make pitches,” Hamilton said. “They were on ‘em.”The Yankees had already overcome one rocky frame, as a first-inning stolen base ...

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 04:13:05 GMT

PHOENIX — Speaker Kevin McCarthy suggested Sunday that an impeachment inquiry of President Joe Biden was becoming more likely, calling it “a natural step forward” as Congress soon ends its summer break and House Republicans seek to expand their investigative powers.McCarthy, R-Calif., has so far avoided committing to an impeachment vote or offering a timeline for possible action. Some House Republicans are eager to go after Biden over claims of financial misconduct involving his son Hunter, but the Democratic president has not been shown to have done anything wrong.Meanwhile, McCarthy said passing a short-term spending bill to keep the government running past the end of September would ensure that investigations of Hunter Biden could continue, a pitch directed at conservatives worried a bipartisan deal with Senate Democrats would not cut enough spending. The stopgap measure would buy time to work out a longer-term budget deal before mandatory spending cuts that neither p...
