BOSTON – The Red Sox didn’t tag the Yankees for 15 runs again when their series resumed on Sunday afternoon, yet Boston hammered its division rivals – and the Green Monster – for the second consecutive game, a 6-2 win for the home team. The Sox started their scoring in the fifth after Clarke Schmidt allowed a walk and a double to Justin Turner, which could have been – but was not – caught against the wall by a leaping Jake Bauers in left. Alex Verdugo then scored on a Rafael Devers groundout before Adam Duvall singled Turner home.Michael King prevented further damage in the fifth, but he allowed four two-out hits, including RBI doubles to Connor Wong and Verdugo, in the sixth. Both doubles peppered the Monster.“I, stupidly I guess, pitched into that left field wall,” King said. “At home, there’s a lot of times where I’ll pitch away from our right field. You got to know the park.”Nick Ramirez then balked in Masata...

CAMBRIDGE – No. 5 Lexington (24-1) moved into some rare space as the girls tennis team rolled to a 4-1 win over No. 3 Lincoln-Sudbury in the Division 1 state final at the duPont Tennis Courts on the campus of MIT.In a rematch of last year’s state final, Lexington proved to be the better team for the second season in a row and now can claim back-to-back titles for the first time in school history. The Minuteman now own three state tennis championships, with one back in 1975.No. 1 and No. 2 singles stars Diya Patchamuthu and Kyra McCandless cruised to match victories to pace the Minutemen from the start.Patchamuthu secured a 6-1, 6-1 win over Emily Naum while McCandless was one better with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lia Swire for straight set victories as the sophomore tandem set things up nicely for Lexington head coach Chance Fechtor.“Very dominant and like you saw, (McCandless) barely gives up games and they are both anchors for the team,” said Fechtor. “Realistically, everyone has to pul...

BEIJING (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has opened a second and final day of critical meetings with senior Chinese officials as the two sides expressed willingness to talk but showed little inclination to bend on hardened positions that have sent tensions soaring. Blinken was meeting Monday morning with China’s top diplomat Wang Yi and an encounter with President Xi Jinping was still in the cards before he departs in the late evening. Neither Blinken nor Wang made any comment to reporters as they greeted each other and sat for their discussion. In the first round of talks on Sunday, Blinken met for nearly six hours with Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang after which both countries said they had agreed to continue high-level discussions. However, there was no sign that any of the most fractious issues between them were closer to resolution. The two sides both said Qin had accepted an invitation from Blinken to visit Washington but Beijing made clear that “the China-U.S. re...

But at Brookdale Senior Living on Gaines Ranch Road in Southwest Austin, that's exactly what happened.A spokesperson confirmed it has been out for a few weeks now. 'It's dangerous, quite frankly'Adam, who asked not to share his last name, said his mother-in-law lives there. "Think at one point, my mother-in-law's thermostat was reading 85, which is very disconcerting," Adam said, "She had it set at 72, which we would like it to be at."He said she's started to have fatigue and trouble sleeping. "It can be quite dangerous if she experiences any kind of overheating or stress from the heat," he said. "I can't imagine what it's like to have to go to bed and just feel the same level of heat, almost like you're outside."Adam said his mother-in-law took this picture from inside a common area at Brookdale Gaines Ranch.
